Cub Cadet - Shoddy design and workmanship
In June of 2011, I bought an I 1042 Cub Cadet zero turn tractor with a 42" mower deck. I was impressed with the zero turn feature and I paid $2,500.00 for it
Before I finished cutting my lawn the first time, it gradually lost propulsion and I couldn't determine what the problem was, so I sent it back to the dealer. A few days later, they brought it back and everything seemed okay. But before it has accumulated 13 hours, the same thing happened and this time I decided to fix it myself. I bought a professional shop manual and was astounded with the procedure to adjust the drive belt. It required removal of the mower deck, and was nearly impossible to effect with normal hand tools, even it wasn't a real pain to reach. It too me nearly 4 hours following the shop manual directions.
I bought a Cub Cadet because I remembered what a quality tool they was when they were part of International Harvester. Big surprise, MTD products don't compare, and never again.
Long story short, I consider this machine to be a total piece of junk, and I advise everyone I know to stick John Deere. I learned my lesson.
